Doing Good with Good Data: The Transformation of California Human Development
Wednesday, September 26 at 2:00p.m.
Cascade Room, Westin St. Francis

Speakers:
Kai Harris, California Human Development
Sean Speer, Exponent Partners

Session Description:
Data is the lifeblood of any nonprofit and a big difference can be made with good data when the right technology is in place. Learn how California Human Development went from managing cases in spreadsheets to using Exponent Case Management to track clients, build out numbers, and leverage data to tell a story that helped the organization secure $5 million in new funding to support a new program initiative. Hear how the nonprofit’s enhanced visibility into performance introduced a higher-level of strategic thinking and led to a more client-centric strategy. Key takeaways:

  • Using data to identify trends and shift resources, as needed;
  • Refining or developing new strategies based on performance; and
  • Leveraging data to direct where your nonprofit goes programmatically with a view towards maximizing impact.

Plan First, Implement Later: The Importance of Investing in Thoughtful Discovery
Wednesday, September 26 at 8:00a.m.
Colonial Room, Westin St. Francis

Speakers:
Sandy Allen, United Way Bay Area
Rem Hoffmann, Exponent Partners

Session Description:
United Way Bay Area (UWBA) resisted the temptation of diving directly into an implementation, and instead invested first in a discovery phase. Their decision paid off. Get the inside scoop on how a thorough and well-executed discovery process pushed the organization to think differently about existing systems and processes, while also enabling them to balance staying true to the nonprofit s program model and planning sensibly for a scalable case management solution (Exponent Case Management).
