Team Members

We're Growing!

Exponent Partners' services are in demand, and we are looking for talented, dedicated, idealistic people to join our team. Take a look at our current openings.

Rem Hoffmann

Rem HoffmannREM HOFFMANN is the President and CEO of Exponent Partners (ExP). He strives to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of nonprofit organizations through strategic business planning and the use of carefully and creatively designed information systems. In 2002, after more than ten years of working in the commercial and government sectors, Rem set a new course and founded ExP to bring the best tools of the commercial world to the nonprofit sector.

Before founding ExP, Rem’s clients included leading nonprofits such as CompuMentor and CompassPoint, and commercial technology firms such as Intuit, Qwest, Wang Global, and Exodus Communications. During the first ten years of his career, he designed, marketed, and operated large-scale IT outsourcing programs for clients including the United States Postal Service and Time Warner. In addition, Rem built and headed a 150-staff IT services organization supporting government and commercial clients in the Washington, DC area.

As an extension of his vision for creating a stronger social sector community, Rem serves on the board of the Center for What Works. The center provides research-proven tools and resources to help nonprofits reach their desired outcomes, goals, and missions.

Also an avid environmentalist, Rem believes that renewable energy should top the list of national priorities. In support of this belief, he helped establish the online presence of The Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Letter. Rem spends the rest of his time trying to pass on his love for sailing and bicycling to his young son, in the face of his unwavering devotion to trains, trucks, and all things mechanical. They often compromise by playing with Legos.

Maikhanh Nguyen

Maikhanh NguyenMAIKHANH NGUYEN is a Senior Project Manager and Business Analyst with more than 12 years of information technology experience. Maikhanh has managed nonprofit technology projects for ExP, the United Nations Environment Program, and CompuMentor.

Before turning to the nonprofit sector, Maikhanh was an information technology consultant for commercial sector organizations ranging from small businesses (such as an on-line insurance company, virtual pet store, and interactive television) to large financial, service, and manufacturing enterprises.

She has managed several high profile ExP projects, including Family Service Agency and Room to Read, as well as the international customization and deployment of Techfinder for the London Advice Services Alliance's ICT Hub.

In line with Gandhi's words: "Action expresses priority," building community, making a small footprint on the earth, and using her voting and purchasing power to support progressive social change top Maikhanh's list of priorities.

She also enjoys drawing a fuzzy line between work and play. So it's no surprise that her favorite volunteer experience continues to be her work as a committee member of the Cheetah-Baby Plage Association in charge of maintaining and protecting a playground made primarily from recycled bicycle and motorcycle tires. She produced and continues to maintain their website.

Maikhanh also believes that yoga, dark chocolate, and California red wines make the best stress relievers.

Seth Leonard

Seth LeonardSETH LEONARD is a Web Engineer working with ExP as a Project Manager and technology consultant. Seth’s extensive career in Web development includes his work for the Women's Funding Network, Planned Parenthood, MayaWorks, and the ACLU of Northern California, where he helped launch the organization’s complete Web site revision.

In 2004, Seth developed and launched MatchFlick, a social networking and movie review Web site for movie fans to express and share their film passions. He sold the site in 2006. Seth also developed CounterStats (early Web traffic software) in 1996, and had many of his Perl scripts featured in the book Setting Up An Internet Site For Dummies.

In addition to his work at ExP, Seth is earning a degree in Public Policy with a primary focus on public transportation and city/regional planning. An avid traveler, Seth has lived in Mexico and explored various countries bordering the English Channel and the tempestuous North Sea. In 2002, he “rode the rails” around the United States and Canada for a month, resulting in a solo show that he wrote and performed for audiences in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Kathy Dunne

KATHY DUNNE is a Senior Project Manager and Business Analyst for ExP’s Eastern Region, headquartered in Washington DC. With more than 10 years of experience as a project manager and business analyst in the nonprofit sector, Kathy is familiar with the technology challenges facing many nonprofits. Before joining ExP, Kathy managed implementations of grants management solutions for foundations. Previously she had a long career in PBS’s education division (a dream job for a child who grew up on Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, and the Electric Company) where her accomplishments included a successful Salesforce.com implementation that transformed her into a “Salesforce evangelist.”

Underneath Kathy’s mild-mannered exterior lies an avid Battlestar Galactica fan and a woman with a black belt in karate—one of her proudest accomplishments, although her young daughter tops the list. Kathy lived on the west coast of Ireland for several years when she was young, but she’s not a James Joyce fan. However, she did earn her undergraduate degree in English and distinctly remembers the tiny street in Galway where Nora Barnacle (Joyce’s wife) spent her childhood. Kathy has an M.A. in Public Communication from American University.

Kerry has a B.A. in Peace and Conflict Studies and a Masters in Library and Information Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.

Eduard Sherstnev

EDUARD SHERSTNEV is a Database Administrator for ExP. After eight-plus years in database and application development, Eduard knows the ins and outs of more database applications than you can shake a stick at. He’s successfully orchestrated the Salesforce data migration for numerous ExP clients, including Family Service Agency and GEO. He’s also been a technical architect and developer for ZapTXT where he successfully integrated ZapTXT with Salesforce. Early in his career, Eduard worked for a host of organizations, including The Zitter Group and Liquid Thinking.

An avid triathlete, Eduard has competed in triathlons as far away as Phuket, Thailand. He’s placed 21st overall in the Pacific Crest Triathlon, 23rd in the World’s Toughest Half, and 34th in the Half Vineman. In line with his love of the sport, Eduard designed and developed a web-based triathlon results data warehousing application for TRIResults (www.triresults.com). However, his personal best continues to be his son Sasha. Eduard earned a B.S. in Computer Science from San Francisco State University.

Lupine Seran

LUPINE SERAN is a Training and Client Support Specialist for ExP. She is known for her unique combination of technical expertise and ability to convey application concepts in a gentle manner that puts end users at ease. Before joining ExP, she trained legions of recent immigrants, people with disabilities, and other underemployed individuals on a variety of office and database applications. Her clients included JVS, Goodwill Industries, and Positive Resource Center. She has also worked as a Program Coordinator and Employment Specialist at JVS in San Francisco.

Lupine has an M.A. in English with a concentration in Linguistics and an undergraduate degree in Russian and French. The mother of a young son, Lupine maintains a bilingual household and spends her spare time cavorting with her family in Tilden Park, taking her son to classes to “improve” his mind and body, and following the 3-Rs of environmentalism: reduce, re-use, recycle. In the wee hours, she is also rereading Dostoevsky.

Chris Gramly

Chris GramlyCHRIS GRAMLY is a Senior Consultant and Project Manager for Exponent Partners. With over eight years of experience in systems design, Chris is a valued member of ExP’s development team. Before joining ExP, Chris worked as an IT consultant for a slew of major Silicon Valley startups and corporations-including Hewlett Packard and SBC, but finds himself more at home in the nonprofit sector. He enjoys tackling a variety of technology challenges facing many nonprofits today; his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State University serves him well as he analyzes and resolves complex design issues.

Actively involved in San Francisco’s arts community, Chris often spends time fulfilling another passion-freelancing as a commercial photographer. And when he’s not solving technology issues and snapping photos, Chris can be found playing guitar or riding his bike and motorcycle in the Bay Area.
